Devices and Uniforms:
They have no specific emblem, but are known to each other by their reputation. Some will wear a compass symbol as an indicator of their guide status, but this is more of a personal choice and is not common throughout the guild.
Deity: Individual preference. There is no particular deity for the group, though guides from certain countries may have a local diety that is appropriate.
Goal:
The guild is a non-political organization dedicated to the assistance and camaraderie of the guides of Xaria. They seek only to provide support services to their members and to provide a means of quality assurance to clients who seek a guide.
Territory: Throughout Xaria
Typical member:
There is no typical member. All are professional guides, but other than that they are all different. They do the jobs they do for different reasons, but all need to have a minimum of ability to be asked to “join” the guild.
Recruitment and Training:
The guild is very informal. You need to be recommended by another guide while at a Wayfarer’s Inn and pay your dues to be admitted. Even dues are based on ability to pay and how much you use common goods.
Code & Conduct:
Blatantly dishonest guides are banned from the guild. Because of the Wayfarer’s inns, word of these members spreads quickly. Other than that it is a guild run by it’s own members based on a general concept of maintaining the integrity and reputation of the guild. Each member is responsible for their own actions, as would any individual traveling the lands.
It is also acknowledged that donations to the Wayfarers Inns and donations of equipment is the responsibility of everyone. If a guide constantly uses equipment but never chips in coin, repairs or new equipment, that guide's reputation will fall until they may possibly fall out of favor.
Alliances:
Many governments acknowledge the Guild though few special considerations are given to the group.
Enemies: None
Leadership:
No real readership, though the retired guides who run the guild inns carry more clout than others.
Divisions:
Due to the diversity of membership, there is no real core group from which to be divided.
Tavern talk and scuttlebutt:
The Wayfarers are your best bet for getting there. If you have someplace to go you first need to find a Wayfarer’s Inn and start asking around. Not every guide knows every region of the country so ask other guides who is the best guide for your trip and you’ll get a few recommendations. Try to hire a guide at an Inn as there is no real way to tell if someone is a member in good standing otherwise.
Quote:
“Yes, we hired this one gentleman who turned out to be quite the rogue. He led us to nowhere and then required more recompense to continue. Next time we’re definitely hiring from the Wayfarer’s Guild!” - Akkorian scholar at the border of the Badlands
Past:
A small group of guides once opened a tavern in Ravinsport, Akkoria called The Wayfarer’s Inn. It quickly became a meeting place for their fellow guides who passed through the region. The inn’s storeroom eventually became filled with various supplies left there by the patrons for safekeeping (snowshoes, packs and the like). They agreed to loan these supplies to any guide who had need of them. So many guides frequented the inn and shared supplies that the Inns began to appear in other countries as well, being founded by retired guides.
As the inns spread, the Wayfarer’s became recognized as an international (if loosely organized) guild. As the Wayfarers spread across the world, they ended up placing hidden supply boxes in various parts of the world, especially near mountain passes or areas where special equipment is needed. These supply boxes are re-stocked when feasible and can also be used to leave messages or warnings about the trail ahead.
Present:
Currently the Wayfarers are allowed to cross just about any country in Xaria. This does not mean the people they are guiding are allowed access. The guides stay out of politics to ensure the safety of their members. You can now find a Wayfarer’s Inn at almost every major city and cross roads in Xaria. It is the best place to go if you want to hire a qualified guide.

The Wayfarers are a loose collection of professional guides. If you wish to hire a guide who is in good standing, your best bet is to find a "Wayfarer's Inn".
These Inn's can be found in most cities and quite a few smaller villages and crossroads. They are owned by retired guides, and it is the only place you can be sure that the stories of a guide are true.
